SEO: Directory Submissions

Where there are links, there is traffic; and where there is traffic, there is a happy website owner on the other side of a computer monitor somewhere in the cyber world. For anyone who owns or manages a website, the goal has always been to drive as much traffic to the website as possible, good, quality traffic that will either purchase what you are selling, read the information you are posting or clicking on any other links you may have on your website promoting another website as art of an affiliate sharing program. The key to all this success lies in how you go about driving this much needed traffic to your website. This is where such a technique known as SEO, or search engine optimization, comes in very handy for getting the link to your website out there, searchable, and, with any luck, on the first page of major search engines.

However, you must keep in mind that link building takes time, patience, the desire to be successful and the knowledge of where to locate the link to your website in order to have the greatest impact. For many website owners, their ideal SEO method is to add the link -- or links -- to their website(s) to directories that have been set up for such a reason. Ideally, the way it works is that you would list your website in any number of Internet directories -- these are just like their name suggests, a listing of relevant websites listed under particular categories -- so that when someone searches for the service(s) you might offer, they would find a link to your website.

Often, the more directories you place your link in, the better your chances of having your links seen by a greater number of people. In the SEO world, this is always the bottom line. When choosing the directories to list in, make sure you follow all submission guidelines and if you are listing in a directory that is well regarded, they will most likely have some kind of editorial review as well. This is fine, in fact, the more well respected the online directory, the better the chance your link is going to be viewed with relevancy and thus, seeing more people click through to your website.
